A quick overview of the Republican Candidates

I wanted to learn more about the Republican Candidates that will be facing Obama in 2012, I wanted to who was leading to polls, and if there might be a potential dark horse candidate. I also wanted to learn a little about their background and how long they have been in the race. But mostly I wanted to learn about each person because I’m only know their names from Saturday Night Live skits.

Michele Bachmann: One of the Presidential Candidates. Michele Bachmann has served three terms as a Minnesota Congresswoman. She is also the current chair of the Congressional Tea Party Caucus. Michele’s pool numbers have drastically dropped in the past few weeks after Rick Perry entered the race. Her pool numbers in September were between 6-8%.

Newt Gingrich: Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich has been out of politics for 13 years. His campaign started off with a tour of 17 different cities. He is known for his controversial statements about Medicare and his attack of another Republican, Paul Ryan. People expect him to make a quick recovery and be a threat for his fellow candidates.

Jon Huntsman: Jon Huntsman is 51 years old and is former Governor of Utah. His announcement for presidential candidacy was anticipated by many. Jon is a highly rated and very charismatic Republican and is a potential dark horse in the race. Many political analyses say he is one of few capable of unseating President Obama.

Gary Johnson: Gary is a former Libertarian Republican Governor. He is pro-choice, anti-big government, pro-immigration, critic of the war on drugs, and favors legalizing marijuana. He led New Mexico for eight years and during that time there was no tax increase, and he vetoed over 750 separate pieces of legislation to keep the government from growing. Political analyses say that his civil liberties, foreign policy and drugs policies may be difficult for conservative votes.

Jimmy McMillan: Jimmy is a former mayoral, gubernatorial and senatorial candidate for the Rent Is Too Damn High Party. He announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination on December of last year. Jimmy McMillan a Vietnam veteran gave advice to President Obama, “If you don’t do your job right, I am coming at you!”

Ron Paul: Ron Paul is a former medical doctor; he officially announced his candidacy for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination on May 13, 2011. He is 75 and a Texas Congressman who will center his campaign on liberty, human rights and financial market reforms. Ron is known as one of the more controversial candidates.

Rick Perry: Rick announced his entry into the Republican nomination race in Charleston, South Carolina; there he said “I full well believe I’m going to win”.

Mitt Romney: After Obama won the 2008 election Mitt Romney was a favorite for the 2012 run. Mitt went to Harvard and has led all the pools since 2008, but as of a few months ago he was knocked off by Rick Perry.

Rick Santorum: Former two-term senator from Pennsylvania he announced his entry into the GOP Presidential nomination race on June 6, 2011. He has low poll numbers but he is going towards Mitt Romney’s voters and warns Mitt “We are going to be in this race, and we’re going to win”

Herman Cain: Herman Cain is out of the race but the questions are now who his votes will go to and who he will endorse. Cain has been the ‘butt’ of many jokes because of all the women that have been coming forward with sexual misconduct, affair accusations and because of his stumble on the topic of Libya where it looked like he had never heard of Libya before. Cain is a Cancer survivor and also was a host of WSB’s “The Herman Cain Show”
