The Pupil Services Department oversees programs and services for special education, gifted education, and support for students with limited English proficiency (LEP). Our goal is to provide appropriate educational services within the least restrictive environment, based upon individual needs. We work closely with regular education to determine supports and accommodations that may be provided to children within the regular setting. By differentiating instruction within the classroom, we can address many student needs. If specialized instruction is required, an Intervention Specialist may provide services in a separate setting.
Students can be referred for consideration for services by a teacher, parent, community member, or other school staff member. Eligibility for special education and English as a Second language services is determined by evaluation information, including standardized assessments, observation, records review, progress reports, and parent interviews. Eligibility for gifted education is determined through whole-grade assessment using group tests for cognitive and academic abilities.
