Ask the Librarian
Ask Mrs. Farynowski questions by emailing her at
dfarynowski@grandviewschools.org then check
back here now and then to see if your questions have been answered.

Q: What is your favorite book this year?
A: This is such a tough question to answer as my answer changes the more I read! The Invention of Hugo Cabret: A Novel in Words and Pictures by Brain Selznick is absolutely incredible. This book is told in black and white drawings and text. The story focuses on a young boy who lives in a shopping area and his dad is the time keeper. His adventures are fascinating and include some history from the turn of the 19th century.

Q: What are you reading right now?
A. I am reading the Secret of History of Tom Trueheart by Ian Beck. This fantasy takes place in the land of stories where the 7 brothers have adventures. It is a page turner.

Q: What is your favorite time of the school year?
A: I especially like the weeks of book fair and author visits. Book fair allows us to see the new fiction and non-fiction books. I am always amazed and delighted with our author visits. It is fun to meet and learn from them.

Edison Intermediate/Middle School Events
Nothing to report at this time.

Edison Intermediate/Middle School Projects
In this space you can read about some of the cool stuff we are working on with our
students. Here is what's going on right now.

Ms. Penn's and Ms. Zimmerman's classes are working on writing puns and being critical viewers of commercials. The students wrote their own puns and illustrated them. We also watched and discussed the video "Buy Me!"

Mrs. Biandudi's and Mrs. Mauck's classes will have library skills class in the
second semester. They do have a check-out time each week. They are permitted
to check out 3 books: a chapter book, a non-fiction book, and a fun book.

Ms. Pittenger's and Mrs. Runyon's classes are completing a unit on the Dewey Decimal System. We have learned the 10 categories and will practice where specific books are shelved. We also discussed symbolism and made triangle displays showing symbolism in our favorite books.

Mr. Newton's and Ms. Swary's classes will have library skills the semester.
They do have a chcck - out time: they are permitted to check out 3 books at a time.
