Malcolm Little was born on May 1925, in Omaha Nebraska. Malcolm’s father Earl Little was an avid supporter and member of the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement association), this led to death threats from the white supremacist community and they were forced to move twice before Malcolm was even 4. In 1929 the little’s home in Lansing Michigan was burned down, and Earl was killed two years later, the police denoted both crimes as accidents.
Malcolm was told at a young age that his goal to become a lawyer was far fetched due to the fact that he was African American. This led to him dropping out of school and entering into a world of crime in Harlem New York. This led to him being arrested, and in his time in jail he became interested in the nation of Islam, and the teachings of their leader Elijah Mohammed.
Malcolm became a minister for the nation of Islam; his goal was to create mosques in American cities, and to spread the teachings of Islam through the news and Radio. But in 1964 he severed his ties with the Nation of Islam, due to arguments between him and Elijah Mohammad, although he was no longer a part of the nation of Islam he had become extremely popular because of all his speeches and writings. Although he had become extremely popular with the black community, the white community was enraged by his speeches about how white people actively kept African Americans down so they could not rise up.
The same year that Malcolm quit the nation of Islam he went on a pilgrimage to Mecca where he found a new understanding of white people, as he met Caucasians that he could call his brothers. During one of his speeches in Manhattan Malcolm X was shot by 3 men 15 times and killed. 15 hundred people attended his funeral. He is buried at Ferncliff cemetery in Hartsdale, New York.
